Madrid Mayhem

By | September 27, 2011

From the 22nd to the 29th of August, many crystallographers and young crystallographers united for the IUCr XXII Congress and General Assembly, held in the Palacio de Congresos in Madrid. The very hot temperatures outside did not stop the science, and over the 8 days we had 490 oral presentations and 1550 poster presentations to see! Amongst all the keynotes, plenaries, workshops and talks to attend, there were also some very important scientific investigations to be carried out, such as how to bring out your best side posing on enormously large escalators:

And seeing if it is indeed possible to lick the bowl clean at the conference dinner held in the Botanic gardens:

Many of our young crystallographers presented talks and posters in the main meeting and in the Young Perspectives Workshop, and it was excellent to see so many of us there! Congratulations to Lauren Hatcher of the University of Bath for winning the Oxford Cryostreams poster prize, Andrews Jones of the University of Glasgow/ILL for winning a Chemistry crystallography poster prize sponsored by the Spanish Crystallography Association (GE3C) and Callum Young of the University of Oxford for winning an IUCr physics poster prize. Look out Montréal, here we come in 2014!
