The prize lecture is awarded to a Young Crystallographer who has been recognised for outstanding contributions to promoting science, raising public awareness of science, teaching crystallography/science or showing originality in outreach and teaching activities.

Friday 29th January is the deadline for nominations by peers and/or supervisors. If you know someone deserving of this award, please nominate them! Full details can be found here.

PANalytical Award 2015

74bc61a2-7856-4c39-b464-fa4e74af3ba0The PANalytical Award seeks to encourage and provide support for excellent young scientists who are at the beginning of their careers. The award recognizes and praises groundbreaking research that required the use of a laboratory X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence or X-ray scattering instrument as the primary analytical technique. As such, recipients will not be limited to any brand of instrument, but rather to research that utilized an X-ray source to reach their conclusions. The annual award consists of a € 5 000 cash (or equivalent amount in the local currency) prize, a trophy and a certificate. Further information can be found on the PANalytical website. The deadline for submissions is December 01st 2015.

BCA Industrial Group Meeting – 12th November 2015

ECM29 – Young crystallographers’ satellite meeting

ecm-croatia-logoYoung crystallographers and early career researchers are invited to submit an abstract for the Young Crystallographers’ Satellite Meeting, taking place on Sunday 23rd of August 2015, ahead of the 29th European Crystallographic Meeting in Croatia . This is a great opportunity to present your work, socialise and network with your peers in an informal and friendly environment. Oral and poster presentations from all aspects of crystallography will ensure that there is something for everyone’s interests. The abstracts for the satellite have to be sent by e-mail directly to Andrew Maloney (maloney@ccdc.cam.ac.uk) and Ana Šanti? (asantic@irb.hr). The deadline for abstract submission is May 23rd, 2015.

YCG committee nominations

Nominations are now open for selected positions on the committee for the Young Crystallographers Group. The YCG will be holding elections at their AGM on Monday 30th March at 17:45 at the University of York, the day before the BCA Spring Meeting. Nominations should be received prior to this AGM. The posts open for nomination are:YCGroup

  • Vice Chair
  • BSG Rep
  • Ordinary Member (up to 3 positions)

If you would like to nominate anybody for one of these posts then please contact the YCG Secretary Claire Hobday (c.hobday@ed.ac.uk) before the AGM. If you would like to find out what being on the committee is like and what responsibilities these committee positions have, please contact the YCG Chair (scott.mckellar@ed.ac.uk). Nominators should also check with the person up for nomination that they are willing to stand for election prior to the nomination.

Would You Publish This?

Young Crystallographers are encouraged to contribute to the discussion session “Would You Publish This?” at the upcoming BCA Spring Meeting in York. More details are given on the meeting website, but the aim of the session is to provide constructive and supportive discussion of problematic work rather than negative criticism, attempting to pick holes or other negative feedback.  The presentation will consist of just a couple of slides, followed by audience discussion on the problem presented and potential solutions.

A formal abstract is not required, but please contact the session organisers (bill.clegg@newcastle.ac.uk;  g.s.nichol@ed.ac.uk) in advance of the meeting (as soon as possible!) if you wish to contribute.

YCG satellite meeting timetable
